Where to Stay in Da Nang: Every Area Compared (2026)
Da Nang is a 30km coast road and every neighbourhood is a position on it: Son Tra tip at km 0, Man Thai 2.5, the My Khe strip 4.5, An Thuong 7, Bac My An 8.5, the Marble Mountains 11, Non Nuoc 12, Hoi An 30. Hai Chau sits about 3km inland across the river. Pick the number that matches your trip and the rest follows. The market is unusually cheap for what it is — hostels $8–12, 3-star $19–25, beachfront 4-star $40–60 (the value sweet spot on this coast) and a 5-star average of about $84, because the city overbuilt hotels between 2016 and 2019 and never caught up with itself. Six areas, one coast road, priced by the night
Read this as a line, not a map. The beach boulevard changes name three times — Hoang Sa, then Vo Nguyen Giap, then Truong Sa — and runs unbroken from the Son Tra peninsula to Hoi An. Everything below is a kilometre marker on that line, except Hai Chau, which is the city on the far bank of the Han River about 3km inland. Who stays where, and why
First-timers — the My Khe beachfront
Specifically the stretch between Pham Van Dong and Nguyen Van Thoai. You get the beach across the road, the seafood barns and beach bars behind you, a Grab to anywhere in the city for 60,000–90,000₫ and no decisions to make. It is resort-like and disconnected from local life, which is exactly why it works for four nights and starts to grate on the tenth.
Digital nomads — the An Thuong grid, or Man Thai with a bike
An Thuong and My An are the walkable default: ACE around $100 a month, Seaview $72–85, laptop cafés on every block and the beach five minutes away. Halve your rent by moving to Man Thai or Khue My and buying a scooter at $40–60 a month. Book one or two weeks short-term first and hunt in person — the Facebook expat groups, not the English listings, are the real rental channel.
Families — My Khe hotels for a city trip, Non Nuoc for a resort one
Two completely different holidays. My Khe family hotels put you inside the city with the beach across the road and the Marble Mountains ten minutes south. The Non Nuoc strip — Furama, Hyatt Regency, Melia, Pullman, Premier Village, Sheraton Grand — puts you in a compound with a kids club and nothing to walk to. Pick the second only if you genuinely intend to stay in it.
Luxury — InterContinental Son Tra first, then the Non Nuoc strip
The InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula has its own bay on the Son Tra headland and runs $400–700 and up. Below it, the Non Nuoc resorts sit at $120–380, TIA Wellness in Khue My does the all-inclusive-spa format, and the riverfront Novotel and Hilton in Hai Chau do city luxury for less. This is one of Asia's cheapest five-star markets and the numbers reflect it.
Backpackers — the An Thuong hostel grid or Tran Phu near Han Market
Two clusters. An Thuong's hostels start around $10 and put you on Ngo Thi Si, which is the bar spine and where you will meet people. Tran Phu and the Han Market blocks in Hai Chau go down to $5–8 and put you in the real city, with Con Market food and the Dragon Bridge show at the door. The beach costs you a 25,000₫ bike ride from there.
Korean visitors — between Vo Nguyen Giap and An Thuong 4
Korea has been Da Nang's largest source market since 2016 and there is an entire K-quarter to prove it. The centre of gravity runs from the Vo Nguyen Giap beachfront back to An Thuong 4, with the branded beachfront four- and five-stars on the boulevard and the K-BBQ streets on Pham Van Dong, An Thuong 4 and An Thuong 8 behind them.

This is the number that makes Da Nang worth booking. The Vo Nguyen Giap hotel wall — Four Points, Radisson, Hilton Garden Inn, TMS, A La Carte and dozens of Korean- and Chinese-oriented four-stars behind them — sits in a band most beach cities in Asia charge double for, because the city overbuilt between 2016 and 2019 and demand only caught up in 2024. Cheaper than it should be, at every level, and the gap widens the higher you go.
The benchmarks, checked August 2026: hostels $8–12, 3-star $19–25, beachfront 4-star $40–60, 5-star averaging about $84, and the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula at $400–700 and up in a category of its own. The four-star beachfront band is the value sweet spot and it is not close — you are paying mid-range money for a sea-view room on one of Asia's longer city beaches.
The reason is oversupply. Da Nang built hotels hard between 2016 and 2019, the pandemic froze demand, and although 2025 and 2026 are running at record visitor numbers the room stock is still ahead of the curve. Rates have stayed flat while everything else in the city has gone up. That will not last forever.
The discount window is October and November, and rates can halve. So can your holiday: October alone drops about 650mm of rain, November 430mm, and the sea is red-flagged. If you take the discount, take a riverside room in Hai Chau rather than a beachfront one — a sea view you cannot swim in front of is a wasted premium. What is the best area to stay in Da Nang for a first visit?
The My Khe beachfront between Pham Van Dong and Nguyen Van Thoai, at km 4.5 on the coast road. A beachfront four-star runs $40–60, the sand is across the street, and the seafood barns and beach bars are behind you. If you are staying longer than about five nights, move 2.5km south to An Thuong instead, where there is an actual neighbourhood to walk around.
Is it better to stay near the beach or in the city in Da Nang?
Under four nights, the beach. Over a week, the river. The city side is 25–40% cheaper for the same standard of room, has the food, and puts you five minutes from the airport — but the beach is 3km and a bridge crossing away, which is enough friction that you will stop going. When are Da Nang hotels cheapest?
October and November, when rates can fall by half. That is also when the city gets 650mm and 430mm of rain and the sea is red-flagged, so the discount is real and so is the reason for it. If you are coming in those months, book a riverside room rather than a beachfront one.
Do I need to book Da Nang hotels in advance?
Not usually — the market is oversupplied and same-day bookings work most of the year. The exceptions are the roughly six Saturday nights of the fireworks festival from late May to mid-July, when riverside hotels sell out, and Tet.
Is Da Nang walkable?
Only in patches. The An Thuong grid, the beach promenade and the Bach Dang riverfront are the three genuinely walkable zones; elsewhere the pavements are parked full of scooters. Choose your area on the assumption that you will use Grab for anything over a kilometre — bikes run 20,000–35,000₫ for 5km, cars 60,000–90,000₫.
